Sponsored by Light Collective, the Women In Lighting Awards is a special event where one can nominate a woman who has contributed knowledge on lighting, has helped the lighting industry move forward, and has worked as a dedicated educator on lighting and its importance in everyday life.

This year, the WIL Awards is doing something different. In 2021, the WIL Awards pointed its spotlight on people who contributed something special in 2020, filling in the categories of Achievement, Initiatives, and Supporters. This year, the awards now honor the prolific women outside the sphere of lighting design, seeking out crowd-favorite names in the categories of Light Art, Research and Education, and Engineering.

Each category will have two favorites who have been voted by the people and judged on their contributions by the WIL Awards’ panel consisting of experts and magazine editors from all over the world. These include Lightecture editor and publisher, Esther Torelló, BluPrint’s very own Editor-in-Chief, Geewel Fuster, Ljuskultur’s editor Mervi Rokka, Warmwhite’s Patrick Mccumiskey, design lighting (dl)’s Randy Reid, Darc Magazine’s Sarah Cullen, L+D Magazine’s Thiago Gaya, [WAVELENGTH]’s Valery Gorelova, and Surfaces Reporter’s Vertica Dvivedi.

Make sure to send in your nominations and vote now through the WIL Awards website before April 30 and help honor the women who’ve lit up the world in many different ways.

Light Collective was established by UK-based architectural lighting designers Sharon Stammers and Martin Lupton who both wanted to give women in lighting and their contributions to the industry a wider audience and much deserved recognition. The duo has a diverse portfolio stretching into many different branches of lighting–light activism being one of them.
