Get rid of stains and maintain colors with these handy tips
Colors can make your home a more beautiful and interesting sanctuary. If you are one of those that stay away from vibrant hues because you think they require excessive care and maintenance, our practical advice will help you use colors easily and confidently.
DÉCOR
One easy way to add color to any space is through décor and accessories such as paintings and vases. For dusty paintings, slowly and carefully clean the surface with a baby toothbrush or any soft, dry bristle brush. Rely on experts for cleaning sensitive, valuable antique paintings. For jars and other decorative items made of plastic, ceramic, and glass, carefully wipe them down with a dry soft wash cloth. Use cotton buds dipped in water to clean out the tiny parts and crevices.
FABRIC
Soft furnishing such as curtains, throw pillows, and sheets makes your haven brighter and livelier. Before washing, turn the throw pillow cases inside-out to preserve the color and embellishments like beads or sequins. Hand washing is recommended, but if you must use a washing machine, put cotton fabrics and delicate items in mesh laundry bags, use warm water for cotton, and set the washer’s cycle in gentle. As much as possible, avoid using bleach, even color-safe, to maintain the original color of the fabric. Using dryers to dry pillow cases and curtains will make the colors fade after a while, so hang fabrics in a clothesline.
WALLPAPER
To clean washable wallpaper, mix mild detergent and water, and wipe the wallpaper with a damp wash cloth, beginning from the bottom to top to prevent the water from trickling from the top of the wall and leaving dirt stains. Wipe in the direction of the threads or seams of the wallpaper and always dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. For more delicate wallpaper, use dry cleaning sponge or eraser.
