Palayan Lamps Shines A New Light on the Past
Lights play a vital role in the built environment. More than a decorative detail, lights also add dimension and character to a space. “Lighting is an important aspect of interior design as it enhances the aesthetic appeal and creates the mood and ambiance of a living space,” explains Evelio Lucero, Vice President of Palayan Lamps.
“Lighting fixtures that illuminate a room create a safe and comfortable environment besides adding style to the interior décor. Light is the main element that gives the room a special look and transforms it into a seamless combination of functionality and style. Besides playing a functional role, it creates a visually dynamic space. Lighting can make or break the ambiance of a room. Hence proper lighting is an important element of decorating your homes.”
Palayan Lamps
In the Philippines, Palayan Lamps pioneered decorative lighting, providing light fixtures to some of the country’s famous structures, including the iconic chandeliers at the main lobby of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).
As one of the key players in the light industry, the local brand continues to explore material and light with its new collection. It features pendant lights and table lamps with a statement visual component featuring poetic shapes.
Palayan starts its design process by carefully selecting the materials. The team conducts a careful study to understand the right material that suits each model. They carefully pick various materials, including metal, glass, and ceramic to ensure the highest quality of the product.
The new collection shines a light on the past and founder Purificacion Lucero’s hand-picked pieces. The Palayan matriarch’s profiles are transformed into light fixtures with a strong aesthetic appeal.
Palayan became popular for its ability to combine local materials with various imported raw materials from the US, Europe, Japan, and China. Purificacion Lucero built her collection with pieces from glass works across Europe where the style emerged as a reaction to the more ornate designs of the 1900s. The collection features notable glass works inspired by the post-war era, such as Peill and Putzer and Glaschute Limburg from Germany, Kastrup Glasvark of Denmark, Littala of Finland, and some from Venini of Italy.
The pieces from the collection showcase chic design with touches of masculinity, modernity, and surprise elements. This allows the brand to deliver trend-forward looks for a wide range of lifestyles. “Driven by an eclectic spirit and a passion to mix styles, influences, and trends in new ways, we thought of creating products that are accessible to all while allowing each individual to stand out in a crowd,” explains Evelio Lucero.
