This Mid-Century house was renovated from what used to be a drab and dreary space. The owner, a legal professional, brings home memories of Europe by transforming an old apartment into a boheme and Mid-century house. The owner contacted Bryant Cusion of William Brothers Manila for the construction and overhaul of this renovated space.

The owner wanted to make his home into a mash of something masculine and cozy. Having have spent his post-graduate sudies in Germany, the owner would couch surf in old apartments in Paris and Munich. “I liked the way they looked because they never went out of style,” he adds. The owner and the designer stripped the 160-square meter space bare, leaving only a shell of the space.
Each of the furniture pieces hold a story, mainly because they come in from the owner’s old family home. Mid-Century furniture like the Barcelona and Eames chairs, colorful artwork, paneled walls, patterned rug, and a gold Philippe Starck mirror creates a bohemian and cozy ambiance in this Mid-Century house.
In the hallways, the paintings are positioned in between a whole wainscoting wall. The detail also hides the bathroom door that pops open with a single push.
The family room doubles as as a guest bedroom because of the sofa bed placed. A Rodel Tapaya painting keeps guests company during their stay.

A wall previously screened the kitchen from the living area. Tearing it down for the renovation solved two problems: bringing the light into the perpetually dark kitchen and visually tying it into the living areas. And also, it amkes it easier to access the door to the dirty kitchen.

Throughout the renovation, some compromises had to be made. Ceramic tiles replace the original Carrara marble backsplash and island proposal. Meanwhile, the liquor cabinet was added to cover up the piping. The dining table doubles as the owner’s work desk during the select times he brings work home.
One of the owner’s favorites, Renato Barja’s Cremation Chimney hangs over the master bedroom furniture from Blims. With its intimate and calming vibe, this Mid-Century house is a blend of Parisian elements and touches of modern elements.
