The mind is a host to a lot of thought-consuming ideas and sentiments. At times, we get so occupied in our hectic lifestyles with pressures and deadlines to meet, and most of the time, the bathroom is the only peaceful space to retreat from all that stress. Bathrooms are our haven whenever we need them; it is a sanctuary created for rejuvenation and self-care.

In their first-ever collaboration, Duravit and German designer Sebastian Herkner transform the bathroom into a natural and welcoming place of wellness for both body and mind in a refined Zencha bathroom series.

German designer Sebastian Herkner

The sophisticated and comprehensive Zencha collection instills a sense of serenity as it transports us to Japan, paying homage to mindfulness and traditional craftsmanship. Zencha is undeniably defined by contemporary finishes and organic subtle art of geometry.

An Appeal to All Senses

The bathroom is where you start and finish your day. It also sets the tone for the rest of your home. And with its balanced shapes, colors, and materials, Zencha appeals to all of our senses. Herkner’s inspiration for the design came from the hand-made ceramic tea cups he had discovered while visiting Japan. Their gentle, organic shapes are transposed onto sanitary objects in abstract form.

Zencha also combines unusual above-counter basins and minimalistic furniture. A unique series on its own, the basins and bathtub’s most striking feature is the rounded shape that opens into a graceful, outward-curving edge.

The collection showcases the beauty of wood, ceramics, and glass

Made from DuraCeram® and DuraSolid®, the dual-walled sanitary objects are paired with modular, geometric bathroom furniture with an elegant frame. These objects consist of two differently shaped above-counter basins: one, a curved square measuring 420 x 420 mm and two, a rounded rectangle measuring 550 x 390 mm. Both are available in colors white, white satin matt, gray satin matt, and anthracite matt that are easily incorporated into any bathroom style.

A nod to Japanese onsen bath, the collection’s tub is a focal point in the bathroom

Meanwhile, the Zencha bathtubs impress with their pleasantly warm feel and elegant matt aesthetic. An experience reminiscent of a Japanese onsen bath, these bathtubs are designed to draw you in and immerse you blissfully in deep water. The free-standing tub is available in round and rectangular shapes measuring 1250 x 1250 mm, but two compact versions sizing 1600 x 850 mm, and 1800 x 900 mm are optionally convenient with its air-whirl system for a gentle massage effect of optimum relaxation.

In Modular Fashion

The Zencha series’ furniture is designed in a modular fashion and displays its versatility in various deployments. The open shelves or drawers with push-open and self-closing technology provide space for your everyday bath essentials. With an easy-to-clean surface and anti-fingerprint reaction, the carcass and frame of the furniture are available in the subtle colors white super matt, taupe super matt, and graphite super matt.

Zencha’s furniture and cabinets have minimal and pure straight lines that complement the sinks

The cabinet fronts add a playful element and are offered in natural oak and oak black to produce a warm and tactile effect, and white plate and black textured glass to bring sensual elegance into a bathroom. Accentuated by a circumferential LED strip that serves as a glare-free light source, a separate mirror emulates the contour of the round basins. The light can be turned on and off through a sensor on the bottom edge of the mirror.

Authentic Materials

Every item in Zencha’s collection is made from sensual and authentic materials such as wood and textured glass, both of which are pleasant to the touch and provide comfort for every lifestyle activity. Herkner utilized only natural materials to highlight Zencha’s collections, unify the overall dynamic, and communicate Duravit’s commitment to sustainability.

Herkner believes that authenticity is part of the harmony of the bathroom as an overall creation, so he spent four years working on the project. “For us, it was important to engender an ambience in the bathroom where we can recharge our batteries in the morning and enjoy some ‘me time’ in the evening.”

A balanced and thoughtful design perfect for relaxation

With high quality and sustainable materials, the Zencha collection can be individually configured for various interior design settings.“Duravit represents tradition as well as expertise in the design and technical sectors,” says Herkner.

Inventive, selective, and collective, the Zencha series is the bathroom of tranquility perfect for anyone who needs it anytime of the day.
