Graduating from high school in Cebu and moving on to college in Manila, this small industrial condo is UST Growling Tigers’ #13 Shooting Guard, Zachy Huang’s new home where he can learn to be independent and just chillax. Being a student and the shooting guard for his university’s team, Zachy’s schedule doesn’t just stop at attending a class or an org meeting; the rest of his hours are dedicated to basketball, especially whenever the UAAP season starts. “We designed the space for his lifestyle,” explains Gen Alfaro of Primea Design Group. The firm also designed the Huang family’s home, so they took cues from how they did Zachy’s bedroom in Cebu. The team also incorporated Zachy’s fondness of the Brooklyn Bridge, and other places in New York. Providing a comfy bed was a top priority for the client who will be spending most of his days in class and the rest of his time training or playing in court. Layering soft and stylish bedsheets, shams and duvets from West Elm and Pottery Barn Teens definitely makes the bed more inviting for a snooze. A trundle (seating space that turns into a bed) is also installed below Zachy’s bed for nights when his older brother Matt would like to crash. At the foot of his bed is his study area. Another priority was to fit the unit to work with Zachy’s towering height. Being a basketball player, Zachy requested for the entire unit to fit his very tall height. This explains the high counter top and the tall dining bar with high barstools. Bonus Tip:
Elevating spaces with tall furniture visually makes them appear like they’re in a “separate” space.
By placing most of the storage by the room’s walls, Zachy is left with a compact yet very spacious and stylish space which is 10 minutes from his university. The basketball player shares that he likes to hang and chill in his room after a busy day of school and training. “Sometimes I have friends over, too,” he adds. Surely, this small industrial condo is a space where he can really have a peaceful time-out. This story first appeared on CondoLiving Vol. 11 No.4 2016. Edits were made for CondoLiving.OneMega.com.
