Thailand and Singapore Dominate ASEAN entry shortlist at INSIDE Festival 2019

Vietnam and Cambodia also play host to shortlisted entries in strong ASEAN presence at INSIDE Festival 2019

The ASEAN onslaught continues indoors as 11 shortlisted entries from Southeast Asia made it to this year’s instalment of INSIDE Festival 2019. The interior design-focused awards show is a sister event to the prestigious World Architecture Festival, to be held in RAI Amsterdam from December 4 to 6, 2019. Like in WAF, where four Filipino firms got shortlist nods, Thailand and Singapore dominated the ASEAN shortlist tally. The former got five shortlisted entries from local practices and the latter nabbed three. Like in previous instalments, China dominated the list across the nine competitive categories, with Australia a far second.

ONG&ONG and Interior Architects 49 Dominate

Singapore megafirm ONG&ONG nets two shortlist entries for Bedok Library under the Civic, Culture and Transport Category, and for the American International Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in the Health and Education Category. Thailand’s Interior Architects 49 also secures two shortlist slots with 49 HUB Warehouse 116 under the Creative Reuse Category and Santiburi The Residences under the Residential Category. WAF multiple-shortlisted Thai studio Creative Crews also make an appearance with an intriguing entry, Classroom Makeover for the Blind, under the Health and Education Category.

Vietnam plays host to two shortlisted entries by foreign architects, one from ONG&ONG and another under the Display Category for The Cloud Maze by
RSAABüro Ziyu Zhuang. Cambodia’s Alila Villas Koh Russey turned heads and cops a shortlist spot under the Hotels Category for Singapore studio, studiogoto. The shortlisted entries below:
