In the modern world where originality and sustainability must come hand in hand, resourcefulness is a crucial skill that makes projects a lot more interesting and practical. In terms of architecture, reusing and recycling materials and using them to make something beautiful is a skill that not only helps our environment but also gives the familiar sanctuary people need away from gray work cubicles and narrow streets.
Nestled in Laguna and set near the Sta. Elena Golf and Country Estates, The Bird House is a picturesque residential structure that harmonizes with Sta. Elena’s history as a bird sanctuary. The idea of a home that pays homage to an unshackled and eco-friendly lifestyle was created by the mind of designer, biker, sailor, and owner Carol Karthe who worked with architect Roberto “Bobby” Ocampo-the man who brought her vision to life.
How Does The Bird House House Present Sustainability?
Putting aesthetics aside, Karthe’s Bird House is a home that not only takes care of the environment. It’s also a home cared for by nature itself. One of the most important details considered in the construction of this house is its use of renewable energy like solar power and the simple utilization of location.
With proper orientation and an abundance of openings, The Bird House easily lets the natural light breeze come in alongside refreshing breezes courtesy of the property’s abundance of trees that eliminate the need for air conditioning to help cool down hot afternoons. Even rainwater catchment systems were incorporated to help clean and water the plants.
