Yakisugi

A traditional Japanese technique, also called shou sugi ban, in which the surface of cedar or other timber is charred, cooled, cleaned, and oiled. The process makes wood more resistant to rot, insects, and weather, producing a striking dark, textured finish for cladding and interiors.
