True, the final result matters; but by now, we are all aware that the strength and value of a design is also defined by the process behind the product. Its importance has been discussed extensively over numerous occasions through both pedagogic discussions and informal chitchats. In an attempt to create a viable to solution to a design problem, a designer utilizes time and effort. Together with concepts learned from formal training and actual experiences, the designer is able to formulate a set of working principles that is oftentimes unique. This is the designer’s very own creative process. Apart from showing the designer’s ability to seamlessly weave logical flow and creativity together, employing a good process also demonstrates dedication to the craft and professionalism.

Rooting: Foundations of Creative Process is a creative discussion presented
by Architectural and Interior Source

While the vital importance of the creative process is widely acknowledged, it is not uncommon for designers to struggle to come up with their own. Buck Sia, principal architect of ZuBu Design Associates, understands that it is quite difficult to device your own process that actually works. For many, it is a never-ending game of trial and error. As such, he advocates that designers should have a good grasp of the bedrock of the process—which is an entirely different process all together.

“Every designer, to create a more authentic product comes from a specific foundation that is a mix of personal characteristics, influence, and lineage,” says Sia. “These factors on how to make the designers intent, governs the whole design process,” he continues. To help designers establish a strong foundation for their design process, the Cebu-based firm will be hosting a design talk.
