Cafés have grown to become everyone’s hangout place these recent years. Many have looked out for quirky places to sip their lattes. With the rising popularity of #supportlocalph, the scene for Filipino products and businesses such as coffee shops began to change. Instagrammable cafes have long replaced simple themed ones. It is where one can hang and take photos for the gram. One of the most popular concepts is the rustic theme. It is a design that uses a lot of old-school decors, raw materials, and elements like wood and bricks. Still, putting a little twist on the rustic theme could make a big difference to the overall café look. A great example is a carpentry-themed cafe in Cainta, Rizal – Carpentry and Coffee.

A warm welcome for the guests

Carpentry and Coffee was designed and built by Poale Builders. A family woodwork business in Taytay Rizal that has expanded into a design & build firm in 2014. Not only did they build the cafe, but they also owned it until they sold it last 2020. The significant inspiration behind the interiors and branding of the café are the carpenters and woodwork business of Poale. The concept was established because of their passion for coffee, woodworks, arts, architecture, and interior design. With the mural depiction of two workers painting the wood, this cafe will turn on your artistic mood.

Interior Details

Upon entering the Carpentry and Coffee, an old wooden door converted into an 8-seater centerpiece dining table greets the guests. Visitors will swoon with colorful mismatched chairs that enhance the overall vibe. They finished the interior walls in matte concrete in contrast with the polished concrete floors for a total industrial-rustic feel.

Excellent use of mezzanine design is also present in the café to maximize their seating capacity. At the lower part of the mezzanine is the mural depicting two workers painting wood. It complements the hanging pieces of wooden windows that serve as a wall accent. Some of the lead ledges feature designs with buckets and paintbrushes. The upper mezzanine uses pouf seating made by local Filipino weavers. The café counter is made of wooden crates and yellow ribbed-type G.I. sheets as materials. Making it more interesting is the glass window-like accent above the counter that serves as a menu board.

Another focal point is the display of an old wheelbarrow and shovel. An old bicycle and a worker’s hard hat with floor plans hanging on its basket can also be seen by the wall. The designer said it symbolizes the hard work of every Filipino worker in the design and construction industry.

Carpentry and Coffee is not just another quaint café to visit for your next latte adventure in the Rizal area. This is one of the cafes in the Philippines with an authentic theme that values Filipino workers, arts, and culture.
