Marco Coching captures value and color in ‘Lights in Motion’
With the use of painting and drawing techniques, Marco Coching examines the personal and universal exchanges found in abstract art through his works. The driving force behind his exhibit is an enduring interest in the human spirit, its emotional resonance, and the way it manifests in life. Through expressive color, luminosity, and gestural mark marking, he successfully diverts painting from historical and hierarchical structures.
Coching constantly analyzes the profusion of colors and textures in nature and the myriad qualities of light that can transform an ordinary scene into something luminous. Every piece depicts the beauty of light, from striking to subtle. The artist is drawn to patterns in nature, as well as the ways in which patterns coincide with each other. The notion of temporality is central in his process; documenting human connections, dialogues, and relationships as they morph over time.
Marco “Macoy” Coching is a graduate of Fine Arts from the University of Santo Tomas. He is the grandson of Filipino comic books illustrator and writer, National Artist Francisco V. Coching, the “Dean of Filipino Illustrators”. Coching took on a different approach in terms of visual storytelling, making his own name in the art industry.
“Lights in Motion” will be on view at the R1 Level of the New Wing of Power Plant Mall in Makati City from January 20 – February 4, 2020. Opening reception happened last Wednesday, January 29.
