Twisted Bridge 03: An Ethereal Passage Every Pedestrian Should Experience
Dubai, known for its ultramodern architecture, has paralleled its infrastructure as the third-best ranked globally. According to property analyst Knight Frank, infrastructure for pedestrians such as bridges is changing the way people live worldwide. Whether in a first or third-world country, cities have built and supported bridges to keep up with population demand. In addition, to improve the quality of life by connecting spaces and shortening travel distances. Dubai’s progressive urban landscape uses infrastructure, like the Twisted Bridge 03, not just for economic growth and connecting places but also prides using it for “infrastructure tourism.”
Beautiful and Dynamic
Hailed as “one of the most beautiful bridges in the world,” according to Condé Nast Traveler, a magazine from London Vogue House, is The Dubai Water Canal Bridge 03. Also called the Twisted Bridge 03 as it is more known for by tourists and residents. The Twisted Bridge 03 is a piece of artwork equally fascinating from inside and out. It is one of the three pedestrian bridges which connect the Dubai water canal. The kaleidoscope-like twisting truss that enveloped the bridge path has become an eyeful destination landmark for every tourist and resident in the Jumeirah area, connecting one canal to another. A genuinely ethereal passage that every pedestrian should experience.
Appointed to design the bridge were AE7 Architects and Planners. Architect Kerem and Tamer led the team who have worked on different large-scale projects in the gulf, many of which surpassed clients’ expectations. They pride the twisting design feature of the bridge to be 100 percent their design idea. According to the architects, it represents the future and dynamic vision of Dubai tied to the notion of “tomorrow.” Realized for only six months is also remarkable. The kinetic movement of the bridge foresee the compelling future for the culture, landscape, and built environment of Dubai and the UAE.
Into The Details
As with many bridges being structural in nature, the Twisted Bridge 03 is aesthetically pleasing while serving its function. The twisting section measures 20 x 20 feet and 460′ long, uses a series of aluminum frames to clad the bridge. This offers sun protection from Dubai’s heat during summer months and privacy for pedestrians passing and residents onshore. The frames hinder them from seeing one another when viewed from a sideways point amid the passage across. But it also allows adequate views when looking directly towards or away from downtown. It leaves a feeling of a wailing museum that astonishingly marks every passerby from the inside.
The Twisted Bridge 03 sails through Dubai Water Canal day and night. It has changed the face of the city and has garnered attention locally and internationally. Suspended 8.5meters/28feet above water allows for a complete navigational clearance beneath along its canal. The bridge makes it a full waterfront destination and a critical vantage point to take in Dubai’s glimmering skyline.
