Libeskind and Citterio design comfy double-depth sofas
4 Oct 2017 — You don’t even need to sit on a Flexform sofa to know it is comfortable. But how can one refuse the offer to melt in the hug of a beautiful chair? The first Flexform Philippines showroom opened today with Giuliano Galimberti, from the third-generation of the company’s founding family, encouraging everyone to try whatever furniture piece they want. Starting from the bestselling Groundpiece modular sofa with seats almost a meter deep, we made our way through two-storeys of living, dining, and bedroom vignettes.

Flexform was founded in the furniture manufacturing district of Brianza, Northern Italy, in 1959. The Galimbertis began a workshop and opened a street-front showroom displaying sofas and armchairs in the postwar era, contributing to the “Made in Italy” phenomenon in design. Their pieces found their way into villas overlooking Lake Como and elegant buildings in Milan, including the foyer of Teatro alla Scala.
Today, Flexform has collaborated with celebrated designers like Joe Colombo, Asnago-Vender, Cini Boeri, and Rodolfo Bonetto. And a forty-year relationship with architect and industrial designer Antonio Citterio forged a path of professional growth since the 1970s. In 2016, Flexform collaborated with Daniel Libeskind for the Adagio sectional sofa and collection.
The brand is recognized for its commitment and dedication to values that revolve around: comfort, beauty, durability. “Clients sometimes ask us to replace the covering of a sofa more than twenty years after its purchase. The structure is still solid. And the image never goes out of style,” said Galimberti.
The company’s aesthetic is better represented by the concept of sober elegance that translates into essential forms and soft, never gaudy materials. Shapes are hardly exaggerated allowing calacatta oro marble, woven leather, and laser-cut steel frames to bask in the spotlight. A commitment to coherent design makes sure that one has the entire Flexform range to mix and match. Citterio once said: “What sets every Flexform product apart is the fact that it is easily recognizable, conceived for everyday use and always easy to use.”
The Flexform Philippines showroom is located at 215 Nicanor Garcia St. Bel Air 2 Makati City.
