Art and furniture are often selected separately, yet their relationship can shape how a room looks and feels. The collaboration between Hooga and Galerie Joaquin explores how these elements can work together, bringing contemporary artworks into furnished residential settings at Hooga’s showroom in Uptown Mall, Bonifacio Global City.

For Hooga, which curates furniture, lighting, and home accessories for contemporary living, the partnership extends its approach to furnishing spaces. Galerie Joaquin, which represents Filipino artists, brings works that can be experienced outside the conventional gallery setting.

Through curated vignettes, the exhibition shows how a painting’s colors can complement a room’s palette, how its forms can echo or contrast with furniture, and how different textures and proportions contribute to a cohesive setting.

Each arrangement offers a distinct approach to integrating art into everyday spaces. For instance, Jo Balbarona’s vibrant, origami-inspired paintings introduce bold colors, while Karina Baluyut’s neutral abstractions complement the restrained palettes of Hooga’s furnishings. Sheila Osmeña Go’s floral works bring organic forms into the interiors, and Averil Paras’ signature characters add a playful element. In the living room, Eufemio Rasco’s colorful birds and sculptures introduce movement and a sculptural contrast to the furniture.

These pairings demonstrate how artworks can influence the character of a room without dictating its entire design. A vivid painting can become a focal point against understated furnishings, while a more subdued work can reinforce an interior’s existing palette. Sculptural pieces, meanwhile, add another dimension to the arrangement, creating visual interest beyond the walls.

The collaboration also invites visitors to consider art as part of the decisions involved in shaping a home. Rather than treating furnishings and artworks as separate purchases, the exhibition presents them as complementary elements that contribute to a room’s identity.

Jam Chan-Cua, Managing Director of Hooga Philippines, sees the partnership as a way to bring two creative disciplines together and show how art can shape the atmosphere of a home. “It adds warmth and personality while creating an atmosphere where people can feel comfortable and at ease,” she said.

Beyond its role in shaping an interior, art can also become part of how people experience and relate to their surroundings. Camille Abello-Calimon, HR Manager and Special Exhibits and Artist Manager of Galerie Joaquin Group, emphasized the value of encountering artworks in everyday settings. “Art can be appreciated anywhere, but it becomes even more meaningful when it is woven into our everyday lives. The way it interacts with a space allows us to connect with it on a more personal level. After all, art is an expression of life—of our experiences, emotions, and individual perspectives,” she said.
