Co Ban Kiat Hardware celebrates a century of providing quality hardware solutions
Co Ban Kiat Hardware was founded in Manila’s old Chinatown, Binondo. The wholesale buy and sell hardware business was established due to the business acquisition efforts of the Cobankiat family patriarch in 1920, a decade before the Second World War. Recognizing the devastations brought by the war, the brand assisted communities in rebuilding their homes and establishments by providing hardware materials.
It was in 1952 when the business began to flourish and made market expansions. The fourth generation of the Cobankiat family, under the leadership of Johnny Cobankiat, introduced the retail concept for hardware products in the country. Johnny Cobankiat’s accomplishments include the inauguration of Hardware Workshop as the first retail hardware chain of stores, Coby’s Design Center as a means to answer the increasing demand for high-end architectural hardware products, and the accreditation and introduction of Ace Hardware USA in the country, with CBK Hardware Inc. as one of its suppliers. Today, Co Ban Kiat Hardware continues its journey by providing the country with beneficial and world-class technological and hardware solutions.
Over the years, Co Ban Kiat consistently expanded its products by ensuring the highest quality, collectively achieving its vision to be the largest network of suppliers of the biggest brands in the world for the hardware industry. CBK says that this vision was made possible “by partnering with 68 trusted global brands of building materials, electrical, houseware, power equipment, outdoor, plumbing, and power tools,” curating various product types for building, construction, and home comfort.

“Our founding belief is to provide Filipinos with access to quality products,” Co Ban Kiat shares. “We translated this by expanding our geographic presence, supplying to over 2000 partner wholesale and retail stores nationwide, including D.I.Y stores, traditional hardware stores, depots, and more for over 68 brands and over 6000 SKUs.” The hardware company claims that it “utilizes a wide array of its product portfolio to realize market leadership in every market segment.” The brand recognizes that the integration of well-known business sectors is a way of strengthening its distribution network, boasting an expansive list of automotive, hospitality, service, and other industry clientele. It also takes pride in becoming the first hardware distributor to offer products online through several e-commerce platforms and social media accounts.
