What is Fuorisalone?
While Salone del Mobile is the official fair, the Fuorisalone refers to the many events, installations, and exhibitions that take place simultaneously in various locations throughout the city of Milan. This transforms the entire city into a cultural platform for creativity and innovation. Exhibitions and installations take over unexpected spaces, ranging from historic buildings to courtyards.
“Be the Project,” or Essere Progetto in Italian, was chosen for this year’s Fuorisalone. The theme consists of two meanings: the human being as an active agent of change and the act of designing as an evolving process that has the power to shape relationships between people, objects, and the environment.

Founded by Valentina Ciuffi and Joseph Grima, Alcova has become one of the must-see destinations of the Fuorisalone. Often set in unconventional locations, it is a platform for experimental design that primarily focuses on living design within forgotten architecture. It will return for its eleventh edition at the Baggio Military Hospital Complex and the Villa Pestarini by Franco Albini. These culturally significant locations are transformed into immersive environments that showcase the works of both emerging and established designers.
What are the Key Districts?
The Fuorisalone is divided into five main areas: Brera, 5 Vie, Zona Tortona, Zona Porta Venezia, and Zona Isola.

Brera

Set in the historic district of Brera, its seventeenth edition will feature over 300 initiatives. This includes 217 permanent showrooms and more than 190 temporary exhibitors. It crafts a seamless connection between contemporary design and cultural landmarks.
Palazzo Citterio, for instance, will host an immersive exhibition by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation entitled When Apricots Blossom. It explores the crafts and culture of Karakalpakstan and the Aral Sea region, curated by architect Kulapat Yantrasast.
Luxury designer brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, and Moncler will also be participating in this year’s Fuorisalone at Brera.
5 Vie

5 Vie, located at the historic center of Milan, is a key district for the Fuorisalone now in its thirteenth edition. It is known for its exhibitions, often located in hidden palazzos like Palazzo Litta. “Qualia of Things” was the chosen theme by the district, focusing on the intersection of design, craftsmanship, and technology.
Zona Tortona

Zona Tortona chose “THINKING BETTER: Look Back to Shape the Future” for its theme. Focusing on industrial design and material experimentation, one of its featured installations includes Corpografia – Paesaggio di Donna, by Sara Ricciardi Studio.
Zona Porta Venezia

The theme for Zona Porta Venezia is “Design is Act.” It will feature a major installation, OVER and OVER and OVER by 6:AM GLASSWORKS, located in the historic Piscina Romano. It will also feature other installations, including Vanity Fair Italia’s INSIEME, Electrolux – “The Swedish Home, and many others.
Zona Isola

Themed “TEN: The Evolving Now,” Zona Isola will revisit former exhibition spaces and open new venues. Centered on innovation and sustainability, the district includes various key exhibitions such as the Isola Design Gallery, Materially at Stecca3, the Urban Collective Project, and Archivi Futuri.
