Did you know having a cleaning calendar is the secret of most homemakers?

Though actually quite simple, cleaning can seem like such a heavy task when done in just one day. Having a cleaning calendar helps as it breaks down cleaning tasks and arranges them into a manageable schedule which everyone in the house can follow. You, too, can create your own with these steps:

1. Write down all cleaning tasks – Go to each room of your home and list down everything needed to do from floor to ceiling. Include even the asks such as cleaning the filter of the air-conditioning unit, washing the rug, or dusting off light fixtures.

2. Decide on the frequency – Categorize each task according to how often you intend to do them, depending on your availability. You don’t need to do all cleaning tasks every day. Focus on the busiest areas of your home such as the living room, dining room, and kitchen.

3. Match tasks that are similar or are done with the same set of materials – To accomplish tasks faster, put similar chores next to each other. For example, vacuuming the upholstery and the blinds or organizing your closet and then cleaning the attic after.

4. Schedule it – With a cleaning calendar, write down your cleaning tasks. Distribute them and avoid lumping together tasks that require more time and effort. Set one day of the week as rest day, and consider your family’s other schedules when completing the calendar.

5. Assign tasks to family members and household help.Enlist the help of your husband and your children. Even kids can help with smaller, lighter tasks like putting away their toys or wiping the table. If you have housemaids, assign tasks to each of them, depending on their functions.

6. Create checklists. Now that you have arranged tasks and scheduled them, you are ready to create checklists for each day. This will guide you and serve as a reminder at the same time. Put the name of the assigned person on the side and a space where they can put a check mark on tasks to keep track on progress.
