Mantawi Residences Earns EDGE Certification as Cebu’s First Eco-Friendly Condo
RLC Residences proudly announced that Mantawi Residences has achieved EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) preliminary certification. This makes it the first condominium project in Cebu to receive this recognition. This marks a significant milestone for RLC Residences, as it is their debut project in Cebu and their second nationwide to earn this honor. The certification highlights the company’s commitment to delivering sustainable, eco-friendly living spaces.
A Model for Progress and Sustainability
EDGE, developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, sets a global standard for resource-efficient building design. They award the certification to projects that significantly reduce energy, water, and materials consumption compared to conventional buildings. Mantawi Residences met these rigorous standards, showcasing RLC Residences’ focus on creating environmentally conscious and resilient living spaces.
“We are thankful to IFC for recognizing Mantawi Residences as the first EDGE-certified condo development in Cebu,” said Stephanie Anne Go, Vice President and Business Development and Design Head of RLC Residences. “Since we launched this project last year, we have been very vocal about how we designed this property with the environment in mind. Now, it’s here, and we’re very proud that this development will connect our future homeowners to a sustainable life here in Cebu,”
Angelo Tan, IFC’s Country Lead for the Philippines, Malaysia, and the Pacific, expressed his pride as well: “We are equally proud that RLC Residences is the first developer to have an EDGE-certified condo in Cebu with Mantawi Residences. This is truly a remarkable move towards sustainable living and we are proud to be part of your journey in promoting environmentally friendly building practices.”
A Leader in Sustainability in Cebu
Mantawi Residences, launched in April 2023, is RLC Residences’ premium development in Cebu, inspired by the late John L. Gokongwei Jr. Gokongwei, who grew up in Cebu, often credited the city as the place where he learned his values and discovered the true meaning of progress. This eventually led to the foundation of the Gokongwei Group.
Strategically located in Mandaue City, Mantawi Residences integrates eco-friendly design solutions that conserve water and energy. The project features a rainwater harvesting system that will recycle rainwater for non-potable use, such as watering landscaped areas. Inside the units and common areas, water-efficient fixtures, including showerheads, faucets, water closets, and bidets, are expected to reduce water consumption by up to 36%.
Sustainable Features for Future Residents
Future residents will also benefit from the energy-saving features. Insulated roof decks and exterior walls will help reduce heat absorption, while larger windows are designed to optimize natural lighting and ventilation, lowering the need for air conditioning. Smart energy meters provide real-time power usage data. Parking sensors will monitor carbon monoxide levels to regulate the ventilation system. Altogether, these features are projected to result in 28% energy savings once the development is complete.
“This certification underscores our unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. By achieving EDGE certification for Mantawi Residences, we not only enhance the value of our properties but also contribute to the global effort to combat climate change and promote sustainable development,” adds Go.
