Prints in Play: A Resurgence of Bold and Unapologetic Patterns

In the late 1800s, Vincent van Gogh managed to sell just one piece—out of the thousands he created. In his time, Van Gogh was considered odd. While others embraced soft bristles and muted tones, he immersed himself in bold brushstrokes and thick, impassioned layers of paint. Today, his works are valued as much as a lifetime. He stood firm in his principles, his emotions, his artistry—and now, there is no one like him, nor will there ever be.

Prints in Play.

As we approach a new decade in this 21st century, we’re seeing a resurgence of pattern and print. The era of commercial shapes, generic textures, and forgettable hues is fading. From walls to upholstery—even down to appliances—design is becoming daring, even ostentatious. And while this might feel new, it’s far from it. Decorative wall art traces all the way back to 3500 BCE Egypt, with the fresco—paint applied directly onto freshly plastered walls. Then, centuries later came the Renaissance: the Raphaelite imagery, the intricate chinoiserie, coveted by aristocrats. Fast forward again, and we have wallpaper— transforming spaces with character, setting them apart from the conventional.

Still, there’s a lingering hesitation: that these choices might be fleeting—trendy, even disposable. But don’t worry. For those who seek individuality like Van Gogh, 2025 is the time to be unapologetically different.
