Manila Interior Design Summit 2023 To Highlight The Role of Designers in Sustainable Future
“How will our future look like?” This is the question of the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers (PIID) when they started conceptualizing the Manila Interior Design Summit (MIDS) 2023 which will commence on April 11, 2023 with the theme: “Designing the Future,” acknowledging the role of technology now and tomorrow.
“We often consider the future in the way we live and the decisions that we make daily. As Interior Designers and shapers of the built environment, now more than ever, the call to action is to sculpt spaces that are future-proof, sustainable, and also preserving humanity and culture,” explains the organization.
MIDS is a series of events and activities that aim to give answers on how designers can utilize technology for the environment and humanity’s advantage. Several personalities from various sectors of the design environment who have begun to explore the aspects of technology, culture, sustainability, and green design will be given a platform to answer important questions that can contribute to the movement of Design Consciously for the Future.
The main event of MIDS is a two-day seminar for interior designers, architects, and allied professions focusing on strategies and best practices for designing the future in a sustainable manner. It explores the key principles of sustainable design, such as minimizing waste, reducing energy consumption, and using environmentally friendly materials, and how these principles can be applied in interior design and architectural projects. The seminar also emphasizes the importance of collaboration between different designers of the built environment, suppliers, and stakeholders in creating sustainable and innovative design solutions.
Aside from the two-day design symposium, the PIID has collaborated with a few collectives to present, promote, and help empower the creativity and vision of Filipinos. “We are one in belief that #THEFUTUREISCREATIVE. Creativity is a huge ingredient of cities, it greatly shapes and tells of the soul of a place. With this in mind, we are kicking off MIDS with creative activities and initiatives,” says PIID.
The PIID has teamed up with the BGC Arts Foundation for an interactive Art Walk around BGC. This walk is open to all PIID members, allied professions, and students who wish to study and understand the valuable role of art in creative cities. To exercise the participants’ own sense of creativity, a photo contest shall serve as a culminating activity. The participants will be given access to the MIDS mobile application wherein the specific instructions to the interactive Art Walk could be found.
An outdoor PIID Exhibition will be installed at the open grounds of the Maybank Performing Arts Theatre. This creative installation aims to honor the pivotal endeavors of the PIID as an organization and to further promote the licensed profession of Interior Designers in the Philippines to the general public.
To showcase the now and the future of Philippine Design, Arts, and Crafts, the PIID sought out Rita Nazareno and Gabby Lichauco to install the PH Arts and Crafts Exhibition at the Nutriasia Lobby of the Maybank Performing Arts Theatre. A variation of home and lifestyle products shall be showcased to inspire and ignite creative dialogues and collaborations between creative industries.
The very first PIID Gala will also take place during MIDS 2023. The goal for this event is to gather Interior Designers, Architects, Allied Professions, Educators, Policy makers, Developers, and Industry Partners for a night of fellowship and celebration of friendship and future collaborations. During this event, international delegates and Board members of the Asia Pacific Space Designers Association (APSDA) will also be present to launch the APSDA Awards – an interior design award that seeks to recognize the best and brightest designers in the industry for their outstanding projects and professionalism as well as their contribution to furthering the field of interior design.
To close off the MIDS, the first 150 PIID registrants of MIDS will be given passes to an exclusive lecture on the Grammar of Movement by Carlo Calma and evening show of Diyosa Ballet will commence at the Theatre at Solaire, Solaire Resort & Casino.
