The classy loft sanctuary opens to the kitchen from where the dining and living areas can be seen, as well as the staircase leading to the second level.
“We love to cook and entertain family and friends over dinners. The original space for the kitchen was tiny for the kind of equipment that we wanted to have, and we didn’t want to sacrifice the kitchen space and cram everything in. We settled on blending the kitchen and dining areas as a mixed use area.”
To maximize the space’s functionality, a storage and an entertainment system was built into the open space under the stairs. The play between warm and cool tones is illustrated in the pieces chosen for the living area. The focal point of the classy loft sanctuary is this custom wall shelving unit that houses accessories from here and Bangkok. The custom shelving built into what was originally a blank wall creates character for the space. “You can see it from both levels and it shows a bit of the personality of the owner,” says Jeri Caingles of Design HQ.

With the hallway’s considerable width, the owners chose to make the space functional by adding a bright study area for the man of the house. Standing from the door of the master bedroom, one gets a feel of the complementary airiness and warmth that flows through the entire unit.

The unit is generously lined with windows and doors that let natural light stream freely into the space, which they took advantage of by investing in window treatments that seamlessly blend into the aesthetic of the space and serve their function (of blocking out the light) when called for. The master bedroom, on the other hand, is the couple’s haven. “The bedroom is our sanctuary. Nothing beats the comfort of a welcoming home, and being able to sleep well in your own bed,” Lyrna says. Warm and cool tones find balance in the master bedroom. “The color scheme of the room evolved around the lamps, which we’d gotten from Bangkok,” says Jeri. “Everything else just followed.” Side tables from Design Ligna anchor the space while adding texture at the same time. Custom cabinetry and shelving space in a light wood finish add natural warmth to the master bedroom without imposing on its overall cool ambiance.

Lyrna further shares that one of the motivations in purchasing the unit was to use it as a future retirement home. It certainly is a space to make anyone look forward to retiring, given the atmosphere of calm and relaxation that envelope it. If anything, that’s what sets the classy loft sanctuary apart: it allows you—in fact, it compels you—to slow down and breathe. This story first appeared on CondoLiving Vol. 10.3 2015.
