BluPrint’s recent Ask the Experts event, held in collaboration with Enderun College of Architecture and Design, was a resounding success. This student-oriented forum brought together seasoned veterans in architecture, interior design, and multimedia arts, fostering a vibrant space for knowledge exchange and inspiration.

User-Centric Design

The event kicked off with Senior Interior Designer Rio Siasar of Aidea taking the floor, diving deep into “Interior Design in the Urban Fabric.” Her user-centric approach resonated with the audience as she showcased her diverse portfolio. Through it, she highlighted how space design can be meticulously crafted to create tailored user experiences.

User-centric design focuses on creating spaces that prioritize the needs, preferences, and experiences of the people who use them. It involves understanding users’ behaviors, preferences, and requirements to tailor the design to their specific needs, ultimately enhancing their comfort, satisfaction, and overall well-being within the space.

Adding a photographer’s perspective to the mix was BluPrint contributor Jar Concengco. A multi-talented freelance writer, photographer, he is the producer behind the YouTube channel “Design Will Save the World.” His talk, titled “Lessons on City Planning Through Photography,” offered students a unique glimpse into the world of architectural photography.

Concengco delved into his creative process, sharing the perks of his profession. This included access to exclusive locations and opportunities to interact with architects and clients, gaining valuable insights into the creation and lived experience of architectural spaces. His presentation also explored the essence of a “happy city.” He emphasized elements like a strong sense of place, minimized commute times, and the abundance of green spaces.

Planning for Green Spaces

The importance of these very green spaces was further explored by Landscape Architect Paulo Alcazaren. As Principal and Creative Director of PGAA Design, his talk, “Urban Design in the Philippines,” shed light on the crucial role of open spaces, parks, plazas, and people-centric design principles in shaping a city’s character.

Alcazaren addressed the current lack of parks and green spaces throughout the Philippines. He revealed how planned green areas often fall victim to local government decisions that prioritize private interests over public well-being. His presentation concluded with inspiring stories of projects undertaken by his team. It showcased their dedication to reclaiming historical plazas and transforming them into pedestrian-friendly public spaces.

A Chance to Ask the Experts

One of Ask the Experts at Enderun’s key components was the dedicated Q&A session. This provided a platform for students to engage directly with the industry experts. Armed with their own questions and curiosity, students had the opportunity to delve deeper into the topics that resonated with them. In turn, the experts offered insightful responses, tailored advice, and valuable career guidance. This interactive exchange fostered a dynamic learning environment, allowing students to bridge the gap between theory and real-world application.

The Ask the Experts at Enderun College was a valuable learning experience for students. It provided them with direct access to industry leaders and their diverse perspectives. From user-centric design principles to the power of photography, and the ongoing fight to create more livable cities, the event offered a wealth of knowledge and inspiration.

Showcasing Student Talent: A Look at the Project Displays

Beyond the engaging presentations, the Ask the Experts event also served as a platform for students to showcase their own design talents. Dedicated display areas offered a glimpse into the minds and skillsets of the next generation of design professionals.

Interior Design Vignettes: Stepping into the exhibit space, visitors were greeted by a series of captivating interior design vignettes. These representations of spaces showcased the students’ understanding of spatial planning, material selection, and creating a cohesive aesthetic. From cozy living nooks to functional spaces, each vignette displayed the students’ ability to translate design principles into tangible environments.

Architectural Projects: Aspiring architects had the opportunity to present their architectural projects. These offered a window into the students’ design process, from initial conceptual sketches to planned structures. The variety of projects highlighted the students’ grasp of architectural principles and their ability to adapt them to different contexts.

A Multimedia Arts Display: MMA students presented a diverse range of projects. This display spotlighted the students’ creativity and their ability to utilize technology as a powerful design tool to tell stories, evoke emotions, and spark conversations.

By showcasing student projects alongside the expert presentations, Ask the Experts at Enderun fostered a sense of community and inspiration. It allowed students to gain valuable feedback from industry professionals, while also providing a platform for them to take pride in their achievements and inspire their peers.
