The Expressive Series: Gaggenau Releases Its New Cavity Range in Nearly Two Decades
Recommended Video
Established in Germany, Gaggenau has a storied history that dates back to 1683. Revolutionizing the domestic kitchen with its internationally acclaimed products, it’s now presenting its first new cavity range in nearly two decades: the Gaggenau Expressive series.

“We’re introducing a new chapter for Gaggenau with this series. It carries the essence of our tradition while stepping into the future. It’s recognizable, yet new,” stated User Interaction and Interface Designer, Soren Strayle. It blends familiar elements with design inspired by Bauhaus principles and modernist architecture.
Design Language
Industrial Designer Alexandar Stuhler noted that the subtle design is the beauty of this series, a result of the brand’s foundation in technological innovation and a distinct design language. The series presents the seamless integration of function and form. To meet a diverse range of culinary needs, the series includes ovens, combi-steam ovens, combi-microwave ovens, fully automatic espresso machines, culinary warming drawers, and vacuuming drawers.

Featuring the newly designed element, the floating control ring, the series offers an interactive detail positioned on the seamless glass door. Not only does it enhance the look of the products, but it also heightens the usability of the appliances. “This step is driven by the principle of evolution, which is key to our design philosophy. The ring, a perfect embodiment of our core concept of traditional avant-garde, reinforces this idea,” expressed Strayle in regards to the ring’s introduction.
German Innovation
This series reflects our commitment to combining advanced culinary technology with intuitive design, offering a refined aesthetic and exceptional functionality for the discerning chef,” shared Dr. Peter Goetz, Managing Director of Gaggenau.
The series provides professional-grade functionality through its features: the oven’s high-performance heating system and full surface grill behind the brand’s signature blue enamel interior; temperature reaching up to 300 degrees Celsius; and an intuitive user interface that lights up as you approach.

Furthemore, the ovens are equipped with advanced automatic programs, a multi-point core temperature probe, and a pyrolytic self-cleaning system. Head of Design Sven Baacke shared, “It’s not just an appliance but a piece of art. This design balances tradition and innovation, honoring our roots while looking forward.”

Frequently Asked Questions
The series utilizes a design language rooted in Bauhaus principles and modernist architecture, where “form follows function.” Technically, this manifests in a minimalist, seamless aesthetic that prioritizes clarity and geometry. By stripping away unnecessary ornamentation, the series achieves an “industrial beauty” that integrates perfectly into contemporary luxury kitchens while maintaining the brand’s 342-year heritage of German craftsmanship.
The Floating Control Ring is the most significant visual and functional update to the cavity range. It is an interactive, circular element positioned directly on the seamless glass door rather than a traditional control panel. It serves as a physical manifestation of the “traditional avant-garde” concept, combining tactile, high-precision engineering with an intuitive digital interface that lights up automatically as a user approaches the appliance.
Gaggenau’s signature blue enamel is more than a stylistic choice; it is a high-performance material capable of withstanding extreme temperatures up to 300°C. The enamel acts as a thermal conductor, supporting the oven’s full-surface grill and high-performance heating system. This material is also engineered to work in tandem with the pyrolytic self-cleaning system, which uses intense heat to incinerate food residue into ash, ensuring professional-grade hygiene.
To cater to “discerning chefs,” the ovens are equipped with several technical tools typically found in commercial kitchens:
Multi-point Core Temperature Probe: Ensures precision cooking by measuring the internal temperature of food at multiple points.
Combi-Steam Functionality: Allows for the combination of humidity and hot air, essential for professional baking and roasting.
Vacuuming and Warming Drawers: These complementary appliances enable sous-vide preparation and precise plate warming, expanding the culinary capabilities of the domestic kitchen.
According to Head of Design Sven Baacke, the series is designed to be a sculptural element within the home. The composition—described as “two frames, one circle”—focuses on the harmony of proportions. By using high-quality materials like precision-cut glass and brushed metals, Gaggenau elevates the appliance into a piece of architectural furniture. This design philosophy ensures that the range is not only a functional “workforce” but also a visual anchor that enriches the poetic atmosphere of the kitchen.
