How to Style a Mother’s Day Brunch

There are a million ways to express your love for your mom on Mother’s Day. You can greet her personally, send a heartfelt letter, or post a picture of you together on social media. But if you’re looking to do something extra special to show your appreciation and gratitude, you can take it up a notch and treat her to a homemade Mother’s Day brunch.

Determine the Theme

For a more cohesive look, pick one theme and run with it. Adopting a summer or floral theme is one of the popular ways to capture the spirit of May. But if you want to make it more personalized, consider your mom’s hobbies and interests. 

You can start by incorporating her favorite color in the decor, tablescape, and desserts. You can add garlands of her favorite flower or even make it the table centerpiece. Anything she’s passionate about, from objects to animals to plants, can be the focus of your theme.  Does she have a favorite place or a country she wants to visit? What’s her favorite cuisine? You can take inspiration from any of these to determine the overall look and even the food you can serve.

Set the Perfect Personalized Brunch Scene

Make this occasion hers by organizing a menu featuring your mother’s favorite foods, beverages, or signature dishes. You can make it more sentimental by elevating the classic meals she grew up eating or the ones she used to make for you. After building your meal plan, decide the appropriate dining style depending on the guest list.

Buffet style. This works best if you want to invite your mother’s friends and family. As it allows for self-service, buffets can cater to multiple guests with various food preferences. The only catch is you need a larger area to avoid foot traffic. If you have ample dining areas or outdoor spaces, you can simply arrange long tables. On the other hand, you can use tiered stands, coffee tables, and console tables to create a one-way flow for limited spaces. 

Family style. For a more intimate and private brunch, opt for family style dining. This arrangement brings you closer by all sitting down together at the table to celebrate your mom.

More than the meals, this occasion is also the day to showcase how wonderful a person your mom is. Let your Mother’s Day brunch reflect her spirit by incorporating thoughtful touches throughout the table setup.

Begin with Textiles

Choose table cloths, runners, placemats, and napkins in your mom’s favorite color, pattern, or fabric. You can adopt a single design for a more uniform look or play with layers to create texture and dimension. No matter what you choose, a thoughtfully arranged tablescape can create a warm and inviting atmosphere, fostering a special sense of connection with your mom.

Select the Tableware

If your mother is into collecting plates and silverware, now might be the perfect time to bring them out from the cabinets. Pick a set that will complement the table’s backdrop and layers. If you opt for a uniformly designed textiles, choose tableware with more prominent designs. But if you choose mixed colors and patterns for fabrics, plain dinnerware will balance your table’s decor. 

Build a Centerpiece

This can also be aligned with your mother’s preferences, but you can give it a touch of seasonal elements to make Mother’s Day a more special annual occasion. Dama de noche and kalachuchi are two of the most common blooms in May. Meanwhile, fruits like mango and pineapple are available all summer round. Arrange these seasonal blossoms with your mom’s best-loved flowers or carve fruit art for unique and personalized table centerpieces.

Add Vertical Interest

One of the easiest ways to achieve this is by putting candlesticks as finishing touches. You can pick a scented variety closest to her liking (use the smell of her perfume as a guide). Aside from candles, glassware can also add a sparkle and visual interest to the table. Bring out your mother’s treasured punch bowl or glass pitchers and fill them with her favorite drinks.

Brunch is More Than the Munch

Don’t let this special Mother’s Day brunch pass with just a shared meal. You can make this occasion more enjoyable by organizing additional touches while you feast.

Surprise your mother with a message board decorated with photos from her childhood up to the present. Let family and guests write or pin heartfelt messages upon arrival or before the  event starts. You can reveal this personalized gift during dessert, or deliver a closing message to give the brunch a sweet end.

You can also create a photo booth corner with props and backdrop inspired by your mom’s favorite things. Guests can take silly pictures together throughout the day and let them have keepsakes from the event.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner. More than words, show your love through acts of service, gift-giving, and quality time all in a single, well-planned brunch. Greetings are nice, but creating a special experience like this will be a memory of a lifetime for your beloved mother.
