The architectural landscape of the Philippines constantly evolves through the visionary firms that push the boundaries of design and innovation. But who truly leads the charge? This year, the international architecture and design platform, Architizer, unveils eight leading Filipino architecture firms evaluated using over a decade of comprehensive data. These powerhouses have proven their impact and contributions to both local and global design dialogues, shaping the very fabric of communities across the archipelago.

Architizer’s Five-Point Criteria

Architizer has built an extensive database of over 30,000 firms and more than 130,000 projects around the world. With years of accumulated submissions and awards, this dataset becomes the framework for its five-point criteria to meticulously analyze and compare Filipino architecture firms in the Philippines.

Specifically, the criteria entail:

  • The number of A+Awards won (2013 to 2025)
  • The number of A+Awards finalists (2013 to 2025)
  • Total projects selected as “Project of the Day” (2009 to 2025)
  • Total projects selected as “Featured Project” (2009 to 2025)
  • The number of projects uploaded to Architizer (2009 to 2025)

Beyond internal metrics, Architizer emphasized that each facet of the criteria involved the global design community to ensure fairness and a holistic perspective in their rankings.

For instance, over 400 jurors and the collective voice of hundreds of thousands of public votes decide on the A+Awards.

Similarly, “Project of the Day” and “Featured Project” selections, while curated by Architizer’s editorial team, gain engagement from their vast audience of architects, designers, and enthusiasts. The Featured Project is promoted on Facebook. Meanwhile, the Project of the Day is published across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram Stories, and included in Architizer’s Weekly Projects Newsletter, which circulates to 170,000 subscribers.

This blend of expert judgment and public participation ensures that the selected firms are not solely recognized by an algorithm, but celebrated by the broader architectural world.

Frequently Asked Questions

Architizer uses a data-driven five-point criteria to evaluate firms based on over a decade of performance metrics. This includes the number of A+Awards won and finalist positions, the frequency of being selected as “Project of the Day” or a “Featured Project,” and the total volume of work uploaded to their global database. By combining internal metrics with public voting and expert jury panels, the ranking ensures a holistic view of a firm’s local and international impact.

WTA Architecture and Design Studio secured the first position due to their massive portfolio of 161 projects and multiple A+Award wins, such as “The Book Stop.” Their design philosophy centers on “social architecture,” focusing on urban intimacy and sustainable planning to improve community living. This combination of high-volume output and prestigious recognition from both the public and global design experts distinguishes them as the leading force in modern Filipino architecture.

Ranking is heavily weighted toward the prestige of specific accolades, meaning a single high-impact project can outperform a larger volume of work. LLG Architects reached 4th place because “The Rise at Monterrazas” won the 2024 A+Awards Jury Winner title and was highlighted as “Project of the Day.” This demonstrates that architectural excellence and global recognition for a single masterpiece can significantly boost a firm’s standing within Architizer’s rigorous evaluation framework.

Public participation is a core component of the ranking system, specifically through the “Popular Choice” category of the A+Awards and engagement with featured projects on social media. For example, DEQA Design Collaborative’s Rizal Eco Center was a Popular Winner, reflecting the collective voice of hundreds of thousands of voters. This ensures that the rankings represent not just the opinions of an elite jury, but also the preferences and engagement of the broader global design community.

The 2025 rankings highlight a strong shift toward modern minimalism, tropical contemporary, and “essentialist” designs that prioritize space over excessive materials. Firms like Jim Caumeron Design and TJSO Architects emphasize abstract, concept-based residential spaces with clean lines and limited palettes. Meanwhile, others focus on “modernizing the nipa hut” or using sustainable materials like stone and wood, blending traditional Filipino elements with progressive, high-end aesthetics.
