In celebration of World Sleep Day, Uratex and OUR HOME partnered for Into the Dreamsphere, an event that emphasized the importance of making sleep health a priority. Held at Mega Fashion Hall in SM Megamall, the event featured a range of interactive stations that allowed guests to experience firsthand the elements of a good sleep environment. Hosted by Luane Dy Gonzalez, the event also invited sleep experts from the Philippine Society of Sleep Medicine (PSSM), with Dr. Jimmy Chang, Vice President of PSSM, sharing practical tips on improving sleep hygiene. Uratex, the most trusted brand for mattresses and sleep solutions in the Philippines, together with OUR HOME, ensures that every Filipino can enjoy quality sleep with their premium products.

Understanding Sleep Disruptions

One of the key attractions of the event was the Disruption Zone, an eye-opening exhibit that illustrated common factors that negatively impact sleep. Participants were shown how bright lights, caffeine, excessive screen time, disruptive noise, and even an overly bouncy mattress can significantly affect sleep quality.

Harsh lighting and screen exposure can suppress melatonin production, making it harder to fall asleep, while caffeine consumption late in the day overstimulates the nervous system, delaying the body’s ability to relax. Noise pollution can lead to fragmented sleep, preventing deep rest, and an unsupportive mattress can cause discomfort and improper spinal alignment. The Disruption Zone effectively demonstrated how these elements interfere with sleep and encouraged guests to make necessary adjustments in their own sleep environments.

Enhancing Sleep

To counter these disruptions, Into the Dreamsphere featured an aromatherapy station where guests could formulate their own custom fragrance blends to promote relaxation. Scents such as lavender, vanilla, and white sage are known for their calming properties, helping to reduce stress and anxiety before bedtime. By incorporating aromatherapy into a nightly routine, individuals can create a sensory cue for the body to wind down, reinforcing a healthier sleep cycle.

Another highlight was a specialized mattress-matching station that allowed participants to determine the ideal mattress for their sleep needs. By laying down and measuring pressure points, guests received personalized recommendations on the best mattress for optimal support and comfort. This hands-on experience helped visitors understand the importance of choosing the right mattress to alleviate pressure points, improve spinal alignment, and enhance overall sleep quality.

Creating a Sleep-Supportive Home Environment

For those looking to optimize their home for better sleep, investing in a high-quality mattress is a crucial first step. Uratex offers a range of premium mattresses tailored to different sleep needs. Luxury and comfort define the plush Premium Touch Viscoluxe. Combining memory foam with pocket springs, the Trill Hybrid Mattress provides balanced support, while the firm Orthocare Balance ensures proper spinal alignment. Hot sleepers benefit from the cooling relief of the Senso Memory Frost. For a healthier sleep environment, the Serenibed, available exclusively at OUR HOME, features antimicrobial protection. Pairing a high-quality mattress with breathable linens, such as cotton or bamboo sheets, can further enhance comfort and regulate body temperature.

Aside from bedding, thoughtful home design can foster better sleep hygiene. A soothing color palette in shades of blue, green, or earth tones can create a calming ambiance, while dimmable, warm-toned lighting mimics natural evening light, preparing the body for rest. Installing blackout curtains or shades can block external light pollution, while reducing blue light exposure from screens at least an hour before bedtime helps regulate melatonin production.

Reducing Noise and Clutter for a Restful Space

Noise reduction is another key factor. Soft furnishings like rugs, upholstered furniture, and heavy curtains absorb sound, while a white noise machine or fan can mask external disturbances. Keeping digital devices out of the bedroom eliminates distractions and encourages a restful environment.

Temperature regulation is equally important, with an ideal bedroom temperature between 18-22°C (65-72°F). Breathable mattresses can offer cooling relief, and air purifiers improve indoor air quality for better respiratory health. Incorporating air-purifying plants such as snake plants or peace lilies further enhance air quality and promote relaxation.

Clutter can also contribute to stress, making it essential to maintain an organized and simplified bedroom space. Minimal furniture, smart storage solutions, and a dedicated unwinding area—such as a cozy reading nook—can create a sense of tranquility. Personal touches like aromatherapy, ergonomic pillows, and weighted blankets provide additional comfort and relaxation, signaling the body that it’s time to wind down.
